Discover each of the Færder islands

The rugged islands of Færder’s archipelago play host to Norwegians escaping the city for balmy days of diving into the Oslo Fjord, engage in outdoor activities during the day, hosting seafood feasts, and enjoy long, bright summer evenings with someone you love.

This wild area of silver sea and craggy shores sees a curious migration around mid-summer, when urban-dwelling Norwegians descend to take up residence in their holiday homes.

We investigated and explored the appeal of these pleasure islands to find out whether this beautiful archipelago is primarily reserved for summer house owners, or if visitors can also enjoy a day trip here—or even spend a full summer vacation week soaking in the hospitality and magical coastal experiences.

Can an ordinary tourist experience the same great moments as the owners of summer houses on Færder’s islands, or do you simply end up admiring someone else’s lifestyle and way of vacationing?

Before we introduce the islands, we can already reveal that you absolutely don’t need to be a cabin owner to have a fantastic holiday in Færder’s archipelago.

And thanks to Norway's Right to Roam (Allemannsretten), as long as you don’t wander into someone’s private garden/property, you can walk almost anywhere along the coast without restrictions.

If you also want to stay in a Norwegian summer cabin, you’ll find a fantastic selection of private summer houses available for rent here
